Confidence is not a character trait but a skill.

You can direct yourself if it is important enough to you.

So how to switch gears from autopilot to decision-maker?

Start a "switching gears" ritual - like counting backward:

5, 4, 3, 2, 1 - and regain control over your mind.

Avoid falling into habits that you are repeating without realizing it.

Interrupt your habit loop to get back to your vision and act with confidence.

Don't train for a marathon - become a runner.

Don't work for a goal - embrace your process.

Focus on your creativity:

Enjoy, document, and share with others.

Make stuff as you move along:

  1. Write a journal

  2. Record audio notes

  3. Create a scrapbook

  4. Take pictures, record videos

Persistence is half the way.

We make thousands of decisions - every day.

That's quite a lot of work for our brain, so it uses mental shortcuts as much as possible.

We apply heuristics to make decisions quickly and efficiently.

Saving us energy, time and mental capacity for really important, big decisions.

But we give a lot of responsibility to our subconscious. And that doesn't always work well as we are drawn to"feel-good" moments, quick dopamine kicks. Distractions.

Now what?

How can we help our subconscious to act in the sense of our conscious ego?

We can train it.

Habits are mental shortcuts that let us fall from one activity into the next. In the best case into a flow state. One thing leads to the next. Our brain loves flow.

Hack subconscious decision-making by forming new habits:

  1. Identify your values.

  2. Form habits that reflect your values.

  3. Train them for at least 60 days.

  4. Your mind is rewired and subconsciously reinforces decision-making towards the new habit.

  5. You've built a habit into a new mental shortcut.

Even better: decision-making can be outsourced to a habit.
